Dolly Parton Netflix Movie

Dolly Parton Netflix Movie

I'll admit to a weird and sometimes odd fascination with Dolly Parton. Love the music, love the documentaries, love her story and I love that her husband hates the limelight so much that nobody has seen him in about 40 years. Everything about Dolly is just sublime. She is who she is and she doesn't give a rats ass what anybody else thinks. How refreshing in this day and age of social media stardom where the opinion and comments of strangers fuels self-worth.

So how excited was I to learn that Dolly has now partnered up with Netflix to create not one but EIGHT movies, the first of which is expected to air next year. Each instalment will be based on a classic Parton song. In addition, the Emmy-winning singer-songwriter will appear in select films.

In a statement Dolly said “As a songwriter, I have always enjoyed telling stories through my music.

“I am thrilled to be bringing some of my favourite songs to life with Netflix.

“We hope our show will inspire and entertain families and folks of all generations, and I want to thank the good folks at Netflix and Warner Bros. TV for their incredible support.”

As Dolly starts on the first Netflix movie, she is also wrapping up production on the music for the upcoming film Dumplin‘. It tells the story of a plus-sized teenage daughter of a former Texas beauty queen who enters a local pageant as a protest.

The release of the film, which stars Danielle Macdonald as Willowdean ‘Dumplin' Dickson, and Jennifer Anniston as her mother, will be accompanied by a soundtrack album released on Dolly Records/Sony Music Nashville. Earlier this month Netflix acquired distribution rights to the film but as of yet there is no date pencilled in for it's release it expected to stream later this year.

For now enjoy the first song from the soundtrack. It's a Dolly Parton and Sia collaboration and it's called Here I am. It's an audio video so sit back, close your eyes and enjoy!
