Extraction 3 Release Date – When Is It Coming To Netflix?

It looks like Chris Hemsworth can do no wrong when it comes to churning out high octane action films. Not only was Extraction, the most-watched original film in Netflix's history, but Extraction 2 also went straight into the number one slot around the world.

The ending of that movie left the door wide open for Extraction 3, which was then confirmed by director Sam Hargrave. He made the announcement at Netflix’s Tudum event on June 16 2023, much to the delight of Tyler Rake fans everywhere.

Based on Ande Parks’ graphic novel Ciudad, and adapted by Parks and the Russo brothers, the Extraction franchise is the gift that keeps giving.

But when exactly will we see Extraction 3 on our screens? Here's everything we know so far…

Extraction 3 Release Date

You don't need me to tell you that it is far too early to have an actual release date for Extraction 3. After all, they've only just made the announcement!

What I can tell you is that when it came to the second film, it took THREE years from announcement to release.

Depending on the filming schedule, from the day the camera rolls, it will take over 18 months to get Extraction 3 to Netflix.

So basically, we might get the third movie in 2025.

What's The Plot of Extraction 3?

With the conclusion of the first film, Tyler Rake (Chris Hemsworth) seemed to perish when he fell off a bridge, leaving us on something of a cliffhanger.

It was a purposefully designed ambiguous ending to allow for a sequel. And what a sequel we got. With a one-shot 21 minute action scene, Hargrave ramped up the intensity.

The plot revolved around Tyler saving a family from the clutches of a Georgian gangster. During the extraction from a Georgian prison, a gangster dies, and his vengeful brother follows Rake and his crew to Austria to seek retribution.

So what about Extraction 3? Well, those details are being kept under wraps for now. Undoubtedly the Russo Brothers, Joe and Anthony will be back to put pen to paper with Ande Parks but they won't be in any rush.

For now we will have to wait for more details but as always, as soon as more info becomes available, I will let you know!

Who's In The Cast of Extraction 3?

It's no surprise that Netflix brought back Chris Hemsworth to reprise his role as Tyler Rake. He was one of the main reasons why the first movie was such a success!

But who else is starring in Extraction 2? Let's take a look at the cast list:

  • Chris Hemsworth (Tyler Rake)
  • Golshifteh Farahani (Nik Khan)
  • Idris Elba

It was great to see Netflix bringing back some of the original cast members for the sequel. Especially Adam Bessa, the young actor who made a name for himself in the brilliant war movie Mosul. However, given how things went for his character in the second film, he won't be in Extraction 3.

Extraction 3 is shaping up to be bigger and better than the first two movies in every way. With a star-studded cast and an incredible team behind the scenes, Netflix will pull out all the stops to make this trilogy big enough to rival John Wick.

Extraction MCU?

You might be familiar with the Marvel Cinematic Universe concept (MCU), where all the Marvel movies are connected and take place in the same shared universe.

However, you might not know that the movie creators, Joe and Anthony Russo, are planning a shared universe for Netflix's Extraction.

While Joe did not provide many details in an interview with Collider, he revealed that he and Anthony are working on expanding the Extraction universe, which may explore additional characters beyond Rake.

Russo added “we are working at building out a universe of films that could potentially explore some of the other characters from the first movie and some new characters, and see more historical interaction between the characters. So if you’re interested in David Harbour’s character, you just may get to see him in a future Extraction movie.”

It would appear that the Russo Brothers want to develop stories that focus on different countries and cultures.

This makes perfect sense as Netflix is available in over 190 countries and has a diverse range of subscribers. A shift away from American and European-based stories would be a smart move by Netflix.

So, it appears that the Extraction movie universe will be expanded in future films, which is great news for fans of the first two films.
