What Is Goosebumps About?

Goosebumps is an American horror comedy series developed by Rob Letterman and Nicholas Stoller for Disney+ and Hulu. It is based on the book series of the same name by R. L. Stine.

Starring Rachael Harris, Justin Long and Tyson Dornn, the show follows the story of five high schoolers who accidentally unleash supernatural forces upon their town.

Realising their own parents may be responsible for what happened years earlier, they must work together to find out what happened and stop the spirit before he ruins everything.

How Many Goosebumps Books Are There?

The Goosebumps series by R.L. Stine had over 62 books in its original run, which started in 1992.

Additionally, there were various spin-off series, including Give Yourself Goosebumps, Goosebumps HorrorLand, Goosebumps Most Wanted, and others, which added dozens more titles to the franchise.

All told, there were well over 100 books across these different series and spin-offs.

The series has continued to evolve, with new titles being published even years after the original series ended.

Highly popular over the years, the books have been translated into multiple languages and adapted into other media formats, including television shows and movies.

Goosebumps Films

There are two main Goosebumps movies released.

Goosebumps (2015)

In this movie, a teenager named Zach Cooper, played by Dylan Minnette, moves to a new town and becomes friends with his neighbour Hannah (Odeya Rush).

Zach soon discovers that Hannah's father is none other than R.L. Stine (Jack Black) himself.

After accidentally unlocking one of Stine's original manuscripts, the monsters from the Goosebumps books are released into the real world.

The trio then embarks on a mission to recapture the monsters and save the town from chaos.

Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween (2018)

This sequel features a new set of main characters, played by Madison Iseman, Jeremy Ray Taylor, and Caleel Harris.

In the story, two young friends, Sonny and Sam, find a mysterious book in an abandoned house. Upon opening the book, they accidentally release Slappy the Dummy, who plans to create a monster apocalypse on Halloween night.

The film centres on the boys' attempts to thwart Slappy's evil plans, with the help of Sonny's older sister, Sarah.

While the film lacks some of the original cast, it still delivers a blend of family-friendly scares and humour, once again bringing various monsters to life.

Both films received a generally positive reception and aimed to bring the Goosebumps universe to a new generation of fans while offering a dose of nostalgia for those who grew up reading the books.
