Daniel LaRusso and Johnny Lawrence, played by Ralph Macchio and William Zabka reprised their roles from the hit 1984 movie ‘The Karate Kid‘ for the YouTube series Cobra Kai in 2018.
Set 34 years after the events of the original film, the first season of Cobra Kai was released on YouTube Red and it went on to become an unexpected hit, with a second season following in 2019.
After filming wrapped on season three, YouTube announced it would cease production of all original programming on the platform.
Netflix saw an opportunity to acquire a popular show and in June 2020 they signed a deal to produce and stream the third installment of the franchise. Since then the show has grown a huge loyal fan base on the platform.
Seasons 1 through to season 5 of Cobra Kai have made it one of the most-watched programs on Netflix after the series moved to the streaming service in August 2020.
When Is Cobra Kai Season 6 Coming Out?
Netflix dropped the latest season of Cobra Kai (Season 5) on September 9th, 2022. It proved to be another mega hit, with more than 274.72m hours being watched globally according to the Netflix top 10s.
So with the fans watching in their millions, it was no surprise that Netflix announced a sixth season would be made. The bad news however, is that it will also be the LAST.
I know, it's a travesty but all good things must come to an end, and for Cobra Kai, that is six seasons.
The good news is that executive producers Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg confirmed in an open letter to fans that they should “strap in for the BIGGEST SEASON OF COBRA KAI YET.”
They always wanted to tell the full story of Daniel LaRusso and Johnny Lawrence, and that is exactly what they have been able to do.
For now, there is no exact release date as filming for Cobra Kai season 6 hasn't started filming yet. But it does look like we will get the final season in 2023.
