Elvis (2022) is a biographical drama directed by Baz Luhrmann and written by Luhrmann, Sam Bromell, Craig Pearce, and Jeremy Doner.

It follows the life of the American rock and roll singer and actor Elvis Presley (Austin Butler), told from the perspective of his manager, Colonel Tom Parker (Tom Hanks).

The movie has been a resounding global success since it premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in May 2022.


Released a month later, it grossed $287.3 million worldwide on an $85 million budget.

Who Plays Elvis In The Movie?

The lead actor who plays Elvis Presley in Baz Luhrmann's movie is Austin Butler.

Austin Butler was born on August 17, 1991, in Anaheim, California. He has an older sister, Ashley (born in 1986) and when he was thirteen, he was approached by a rep from an acting management company at the Orange County Fair.

He got started in the entertainment industry, found that he enjoyed it, and soon began taking acting classes.

Beginning his career with small parts on various Disney and Nickelodeon shows, he gained recognition for starring in The Carrie Diaries (2013–2014) and The Shannara Chronicles (2016–2017).

He made his Broadway debut in the 2018 revival of The Iceman Cometh and played Tex Watson in Quentin Tarantino's film Once Upon a Time in Hollywood (2019).

For those that are interested, he was in a relationship with actress Vanessa Hudgens from 2011 to 2019, and since late 2021, he has been in a relationship with model Kaia Gerber.
