There have been quite a few adaptations of Tom Clancy's CIA hero, Jack Ryan, but the latest series on Amazon Prime Video with John Krasinski is undoubtedly one of the best and most watched.
With four seasons already released on the streaming platform, fans are eager for more. However, the news isn't good!
So can we expect to see Jack Ryan Season 5 and will John Krasinski be back for the next instalment of the franchise?
JACK RYAN SEASON 5 RELEASE DATE
When the first season premiered in August 2018, it was an instant hit. Amazon quickly renewed the show, which aired in October 2019.
With a third season in the works, the pandemic halted all filming, so we had to wait until December 2022 to catch up with our favourite CIA agent.
Amazon Studios then confirmed Jack Ryan Season 4. The bad news is that it was the last.
The final episodes aired on June 30th 2023 and they wrapped up Jack Ryan's story as he exposed Senator Henshaw's ties to Zeyara's operations.
And although we have now said goodbye to Jack and his covert operations, it's not all bad news. There's a spinoff!!
Jack Ryan Spin-Off Show
Yes, it's sad that John Krasinski will no longer be the reluctant CIA agent saving the world. But the good news is that Ryanverse is in good hands.
A spin-off starring Michael Peña as Ding Chavez, another character in Tom Clancy's universe, is in development.
He was supposed to be introduced in the final episode of the third season, however, that never happened. Instead, he has joined the cast full-time for Jack Ryan Season 4.
As a character, Chavez joined the CIA straight from the US Army and in the books has gone on plenty of missions appearing in 22 novels, including seven books from the core Jack Ryan series.
For now, the series hasn't been written and there are no production details available. But with Jack Ryan done and dusted, it will soon be time to focus on Ding Chavez.
The earliest date for release will be 2024.
Jack Ryan Season 4 What Happened?
When Jack Ryan returned in Season 3 he was working in Russia, when he discovered that a decommissioned nuclear weapon, Sokol, had been reactivated.
Old spies and enemies came flooding out of the woodwork as Jack was now a wanted man on the run, a faction within the Russian government was trying to start a war and the world had to be saved again.
By the end, Jack's reputation was intact, his boss, Elizabeth Wright (Betty Gabriel), had been promoted to CIA Director and all of the bad guys were dead.
In the suspense-filled fourth season of Jack Ryan, the stakes were higher than ever, with intertwining plots involving global politics, drug cartels, and covert operations.
Jack Ryan faced a political firestorm over the assassination of Nigeria's president, a crisis further complicated by past decisions made under the former CIA Director Miller.
Meanwhile, in Mexico, the Marquez cartel consolidated its power and became entangled with an Asian triad represented by Chao Fah.
Jack himself became the target of an ultimatum by Domingo Chavez, Marquez's cousin and a key figure in covert CIA operations.
As Jack explored these conflicts, he uncovered a scheme that ties together the Marquez cartel and an Asian triad known as the Silver Lotus, hinting at a looming threat at America's southern border.
Has Jack Ryan Been Cancelled?
Yes and no. Originally when John Krasinski agreed to the role he stipulated that it would be for a maximum of four seasons. Now that the fourth season has been filmed, he is done.
As the writers were aware of this, they created a story that would play out over that time frame and gave the character a natural conclusion.
So don't worry, we won't be left with any major cliffhangers as the show wasn't technically cancelled.
Rather than get another ‘Jack Ryan', creators have decided on a spin-off that will focus on Ding Chavez, played by Michael Pena.
