In 2018 the average Netflix user spent around 50 minutes a day on their account watching from a wide range of series, movies and documentaries. That could be an unexaggerated stat for some of us, I know it is for me.
For one Netflix user, however, a bit of lighthearted binging turned into a nightmare. In India, an unidentified man has been admitted into the National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences in India. This patient spent at least seven hours a day watching Netflix as a way of ‘coping' with unemployment. Studies say that an excessive use of Netflix will disrupt sleep which will have a direct impact on someone's melatonin.
This sounds like a very extreme case and if you watch a couple of hours a night you don't have anything to worry about. I also believe that Netflix wasn't the origin of the problem here and the streaming platform probably helped if anything.
