Never Have I Ever was a huge hit for Netflix when it was released in April 2020 with Netflix reporting that it was viewed by 40 million households globally.
A coming of age teen drama, it follows Devi (Maitreyi Ramakrishnan), a typical first-generation Indian American teenager.
She is trying to find her place in the world and balance her traditional Indian culture with her modern American lifestyle.
A relatable and fun character for many young people who are trying to find their way in life, it was so successful that Netflix quickly renewed it for a second season.
We had to wait until July 2021 to get the next instalment of Devi's life but it was worth the wait.
Especially as the show is mostly narrated by professional tennis player John McEnroe for Devi, with one of the episodes narrated by Andy Samberg for Ben and another by Gigi Hadid for Paxton. Fun twist that only adds to the delight of the show!
If you haven't already watched the first three seasons, here's a quick summary of what happened…
Never Have I Ever Season 1 Recap
Created by Mindy Kaling, Never Have I Ever is about a 15-year-old Indian-American girl from Sherman Oaks, Los Angeles. After her father, Mohan (Sendhil Ramamurthy) dies suddenly, Devi loses the sensation in her legs due to the psychological trauma of his death.
Finding herself unable to walk for three months, one day she miraculously recovers and stands on her legs in an attempt to see her crush Paxton Hall-Yoshida (Darren Barnet, Love Hard).
And so begins Devi's attempts to change her social status and lose her virginity, but friends, family, and feelings do not make it easy for her.
Over the course of season 1, Devi's life changes a lot when she discovers that she likes not just Paxton but also Ben (Jaren Lewison), despite the difficult start to their friendship.
However, Devi does not make things easy for herself and while trying to decide which boy she likes more, she almost loses the chance to be with either of them.
We left season 1 with Devi kissing Ben while Paxton leaves her a message while waiting at her front door.
Never Have I Ever Season 2 Recap
Picking up where the first season ended, Devi is faced with a choice between Paxton or Ben. But in true Devi style, she ends up dating both of them at the same time.
And the whole back and forth thing continues for much of the season with Paxton even getting hit by a car because of her.
When a new Indian girl, Aneesa, starts at the school, it really throws Devi who then becomes convinced that she will hook up with Ben. So what does Devi do? She starts an awful rumour that gets two other girls suspended and nearly ends up with Aneesa transferring.
Throw in an angry Paxton, who is failing school, her mother moving on after her father's death, issues with her friends and a whole load of other subplots and you end up with Devi and Paxton breaking up, then making up with a few emotional breakdowns in between.
Never Have I Ever Season 3 Recap
It was the day that Devi had been waiting for her whole life. She finally walked into school hand-in-hand with Paxton, officially dating him.
But this is Devi and with insecurity creeping in, especially when Paxton's ex makes a return, she soon finds herself unable to handle a mature relationship. And she's single again.
Not to worry, a new guy is quickly on the scene, with Nirdesh looking like a decent replacement. And her mother actually lets her date him!!
But Devi's path to true love doesn't ever run smooth and by the end of season 3, she has made her peace with Paxton as his friend and said goodbye to Nirdesh.
The cliffhanger?? Realising that it has been Ben all along, she arrives at his bedroom door…
Never Have I Ever Season 4 Release Date
Thankfully we are not going to be left in the dark when it comes to the potential full on relationship between Devi and Ben.
Netflix confirmed the show for a fourth season on March 8th 2022, ahead of the third season premiere.
The bad news is that it will be the LAST season and we will be saying goodbye to Devi.
There is no official release date YET but we do know that it will drop in 2023. Never Have I Ever Season 4 wrapped filming in early August 2022 and it usually takes about 6 months from that point to air on Netflix.
We estimate that Never Have I Ever season 4 will air in February or March 2023.
Never Have I Ever Season 4 – What Happens?
With Devi and Paxton's story finally ending on a high note, Paxton is off to College in Arizona. Or is he?? Cos Paxton doesn't leave the show….
The end of season three made it look like the door was finally open for Ben, who has loved Devi all along. But it's not going to be easy.
We know that Love, Victor star Michael Cimino joined the cast as Ethan to spice up Devi’s love life in the final season. So now there are THREE of them??????
And of course it's Senior Year so expect another fun-filled set of 10 episodes as Devi finally says goodbye to high school at Sherman Oaks in Never Have I Ever season 4.
