In 2023, Disney brings a touch of nostalgic magic to a new generation with its adaptation of the iconic Percy Jackson & The Olympians book series by Rick Riordan.

Walker Scobell (The Adam Project) stars as Percy Jackson, alongside Leah Sava Jeffries and Aryan Simhadri. Scobell was cast in the lead role in January 2022, with Jeffries and Simhadri joining the cast in May.

Filming began in June 2022 in Vancouver, Canada and concluded in February 2023 and now it has become one of the most highly anticipated series to drop on Disney+ this year.


And that is because this brand new adaptation is only available to stream on Disney+.

How Many Percy Jackson Books Are There?

Rick Riordan's Percy Jackson series, titled Percy Jackson & the Olympians, consists of five books.

Here are the titles in order of publication:

The Lightning Thief (2005)

Percy Jackson discovers he is a demigod and embarks on a quest to prevent a war among the gods by finding Zeus's stolen lightning bolt.

The Sea of Monsters (2006)

Percy and his friends journey to the Sea of Monsters to retrieve the Golden Fleece to save their camp from danger.

The Titan's Curse (2007)

Percy and his friends undertake a dangerous quest to rescue Artemis and Annabeth and stop the resurrection of the Titan lord, Kronos.

The Battle of the Labyrinth (2008)

Percy and his friends navigate the perilous Labyrinth to stop Luke and the army of Kronos from invading Camp Half-Blood.

The Last Olympian (2009)

Percy leads the camp’s forces in a last stand against Kronos and his army to prevent them from conquering Olympus.

These books follow the adventures of Percy Jackson and his friends as they encounter gods, monsters, and other elements from Greek mythology while thwarting the plans of the Titan lord, Kronos.

Percy Jackson Films

There are two main Percy Jackson movies that have previously been released.

Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief (2010)

The movie follows Percy Jackson Logan Lerman), a teenager who discovers he is the son of Poseidon, the Greek god of the sea.

Percy learns that Zeus' lightning bolt has been stolen and he is the prime suspect.

To clear his name and prevent a war among the gods, Percy embarks on a quest to retrieve the bolt, accompanied by his friend Grover Underwood (Brandon T. Jackson) and Annabeth Chase (Alexandra Daddario), a daughter of Athena.

Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters (2013)

The protective barrier of Camp Half-Blood is poisoned, leaving the demigods vulnerable to attacks.

Percy, along with Annabeth, Grover, and a new friend, Tyson (Douglas Smith), who is a Cyclops and Percy’s half-brother, must journey to the Sea of Monsters to retrieve the Golden Fleece, which has the power to heal the tree that protects the camp.

Along the way, they face numerous mythical creatures and challenges, and Percy discovers a prophecy that suggests he will play a crucial role in the future of Olympus.

The movie sees Logan Lerman, Brandon T. Jackson, Alexandra Daddario and Jake Abel repreise their roles from the first film. The cast was also rounded off with the addition of Stanley Tucci as Dionysus and Nathan Fillion as Hermes.

The movies received mixed reviews, with many fans of the book series criticising the films for their deviations from the source material.

Rick Riordan, the author of the series, has also publicly expressed his dissatisfaction with the adaptations.
