Many of us were already familiar with the character of Jack Reacher by the time the latest adaptation made its way to Amazon Prime Video.
For fans of the character, we had already been treated to two movies starring Tom Cruise. First, in the 2012 action thriller which was directed by Christopher McQuarrie and then in the sequel, Jack Reacher: Never Go Back, directed by Edward Zwick in 2016.
This time around, however, Reacher has been turned into a tv series developed by Nick Santora and stars Alan Ritchson as the title character.
Reacher is a drifter and former military policeman who is more than capable of holding his own against dangerous criminals throughout his travels.
The first season was based on Killing Floor, Lee Child's 1997 debut novel and it was a massive success for Amazon. It was the most streamed tv series for the week of February 7–13, 2022 becoming the first Amazon production to achieve the feat.
So let's be honest, it was always going to get a renewal! And, of course, it did – that same week.
REACHER SEASON 2 RELEASE DATE
The good news is that Reacher season 2 will be released on Amazon Prime Video in 2023. The bad news is that we don't have an exact release date yet.
We do know that Reacher season 2 will be based on the eleventh novel in Child's Jack Reacher series, Bad Luck and Trouble and that Alan Ritchson (Titans) is back reprising his role.
Filming for the second season started on September 23rd 2022, and is still ongoing, with an end date scheduled for February 10, 2023.
For those of you quickly working out the calculations for an actual release date, I can tell you that it took six months from the end of filming season 1 for the show to hit our screens.
On that basis, it looks like we won't be seeing Reacher Season 2 until July or August 2023. But the wait will definitely be worth it!
REACHER SEASON 2 STORYLINE
Unlike other shows that have continuous seasons, each Reacher story is wrapped up in one season with little or no connection to the next. So don't expect to see any of the same characters in season 2. Although Maria Stan is back as friend Frances Neagley.
So what is the plot of the second season? An unknown man is murdered and soon after, Reacher sees an anonymous deposit to his bank account. He realises that $1,030.00 is also his old army code, 10–30, for urgent help needed and deduces that it was Neagley who sent the cash and needs help.
Meeting her in California and they discover the death of Calvin Franz, one of nine members of their elite team of ex–army investigators and that they are being hunted down one by one.
Neagley convinces him to put the old unit back together before they discover that three of the other five members are missing, while one other had a fatal car accident years earlier.
And so begins the action-packed investigation into who is trying to kill them all and more importantly, why.
SEASON 2 CAST
With a completely new story and setting, we are also getting a brand new cast for Reacher Season 2.
They include Shaun Sipos (Outer Range) who will play David O'Donnell, Reacher's friend from the Army unit of special investigators. He'll be a major player opposite Ritchson.
We also know that Serinda Swan (Coroner) has joined the cast as special investigator Karla Dixon. Ferdinand Kingsley (The Sandman) will play undercover mercenary A.M. and Rory Cochrane will play private defense contractor security head Shane Langston.
Additionally, Andres Collantes, Domenick Lombardozzi, Dean McKenzie, Luke Bilyk, Shannon Kook-Chun, Edsson Morales and Ty Victor Olsson will also star in Season 2 in supporting roles.
SEASON 1 EPISODE TITLES
There are 8 episodes in Season 1 of this action drama, and each runs at around 50 minutes.
- Welcome to Margrave
- First Dance
- In A Tree
- No Apologies
- Reacher Said Nothing
HOW MANY REACHER SEASONS WILL THERE BE?
So far, we know that there are two seasons of Reacher. The good news is that if season 2 goes as well as the first season, Amazon will definitely renew it again. After all, how many seasons of Bosch are there! They know when they're on to a good thing.
Plus the Lee Child series includes 26 books and the author himself appears quite keen to keep the show going for as long as possible.
Speaking to the Radio Times he said: “Nothing is ever certain but they're going to love it I think, and when you've got a series that people love, why not do a second season? Why not do a third? Why not do a 27th?
“By that time I’ll have written some more. It could go on forever, literally to the heat death of the universe.”
If the audience figures stay high, then we will almost certainly get a season 3. Of course, that hasn't been confirmed but it is likely.
