Did you know that Netflix viewers have watched more than 447,750,000 hours of Sex Education? We just can't get enough of Netflix's hit teen drama and every season hits the number one spot across the world.

Following the lives of Otis, Maeve, Eric and their high school friends as they navigate life's ups and downs has been nothing short of entertaining.

But now that we've had our fill of three seasons, the big question is – Sex Education Season 4, when is it coming to Netflix???

Sex Education Season 4 – Netflix Release Date

By now it's common knowledge that there is definitely going to be a fourth season of Sex Education.

The first three seasons dropped in 2019, 2020 and 2021 so expectations were that we would get the newest installment in 2022.

However, despite being renewed in September 2021, production on Sex Education season 4 only began in August 2022.

At the time of writing, the show is still being filmed and is anticipated to wrap in February 2023.

We then have to allow for six months of post-production, which is usual for this type of show

That, dear readers, means Sex Education Season 4 will not be released on Netflix until at least August 2023.

Sex Education Season 1 Recap

This is our first introduction to Otis Milburn (Asa Butterfield) and his sex therapist mother Jean Milburn (Gillian Anderson). Otis is a little socially awkward, has never had sex and fancies his classmate Maeve.

Maeve (Emma Mackey) barely knows Otis exists that is until she hatches a plan to make money. She suggests that Otis, being the son of a therapist, should start offering sex advice to the desperate teens in the school.

And so begins a whole lot of drama for the students at Moordale Secondary School.

With lots of dating, a tonne of sexual exploits and fractured family relationships, the first season just left us wanting more.

We ended the season with Maeve seeing Otis with Ola so just when we thought they might have a chance, poof, just like that it was gone.

Would they ever get together? The story continued into season two…

Sex Education Season 2 Recap

With Otis now dating Ola, complicated by the fact that his mother and her father are dating!

Maeve's dysfunctional mother enters the picture and throughout the season causes nothing but headaches for her daughter. Turning to her neighbours for comfort, Maeve starts to have feelings for Issac.

Eric and Adam being a secret relationship and eventually, Ola discovers she is pansexual and actually has feelings for Lily.

Otis hooks up with Ruby and once again we end the season with a will-they-won't-they between Otis and Maeve.

It all looks like it's going so well until Issac hears a voicemail Otis leaves for Maeve. Realising that she might leave him, Issac deletes the message.

Sex Education Season 3 Recap

It's a new year at Moordale as the school ushers in a new Principal, Hope Haddon. Cracking the whip, it's her job to turn the school around and get it back on track.

Ruby decides to make her relationship with Otis public; Jean Milburn is pregnant, and Ola and Lily are a couple as are Eric and Adam. That is until Eric heads to Nigeria for a family wedding and cheats on Adam.

Tired of her life, Maeve applies for a study programme in the US and by the end of the season has been accepted.

Jean has a baby girl, gets the results of the paternity test, and in one of the most heartbreaking scenes, Adam forgives Eric for cheating, but Eric breaks up with him anyway.

Not wanting to stand her way, Otis encourages Maeve to go to America, and they say goodbye to each other.

Sex Education Season 4 Cast

It is all change for season 4 of Sex Education. The biggest casting surprise is that Dan Levy (Schitt's Creek) will play Thomas Molloy, a famous author and Maeve’s course tutor at her Ivy League college in America.

Also joining the cast are Marie Reuther and Thaddea Graham, alongside newcomers Anthony Lexa, Felix Mufti, Imani Yahshua and Alexandra James.

It also means that we have to say goodbye to some fan favourites. Rakhee Thakrar who played teacher Emily Sands; Tanya Reynolds who portrayed Lily; Patricia Allison who played Ola and Simone Ashley (Olivia Hanan) will not be back.

The good news is that the rest of the cast will be returning…

Sex Education Season 4 – What Happens?

Despite that filming is still ongoing, we actually know quite a bit about Sex Education Season 4.

At the end of season 3, it was decided that Moordale school would close. So we now find Otis and Eric on their first day at Cavendish Sixth Form College.

And if you thought their old school was progressive, then buckle up for Cavendish because it is on another level. Daily yoga, kids who are popular for being kind and a total non-competitive approach, throw the new students.

Over in the U.S., Maeve is living her best life at Wallace University. But at home Otis is still pining after her while adjusting to the new baby.

And that's only a snippet of what's going to happen when Sex Education Season 4 comes to Netflix.
