Shows Like ‘BoJack Horseman’ – 9 Hilarious Series To Stream Now

BoJack Horseman is a hilarious show that satirises Hollywood and the entertainment industry. The show is filled with puns and clever jokes that will make you laugh aloud.

It stars the voices of Will Arnett, Amy Sedaris, Alison Brie, Paul F. Tompkins, and Aaron Paul. Set primarily in ‘Hollywoo' the lead character is an anthropomorphic horse named BoJack Horseman (Will Arnett).

A washed-up star of a 1990s sitcom, he plans his return to celebrity relevance with an autobiography to be written by ghostwriter Diane Nguyen (Alison Brie).

However, struggling with depression and addiction getting his career back on track is not easy. Especially when he also has to contend with his agent Princess Carolyn (Amy Sedaris), his roommate Todd Chavez (Aaron Paul), and his former rival Mr. Peanutbutter (Paul F. Tompkins).

The series premiered on Netflix on August 22, 2014 and in September 2018, Netflix renewed the show for its sixth and final season which ended in January 2020, with a total of 77 episodes.

So sadly we had to say goodbye to one of the funniest characters on tv and of course that left a gap for fans so if you're looking for a funny, intelligent show to watch here are nine shows that you'll probably love.

My favourite on the list is Big Mouth; this is another animated show that will make you laugh. An adult animated coming-of-age sitcom created by Andrew Goldberg, Nick Kroll, Mark Levin, and Jennifer Flackett for Netflix, the show follows the lives of a group of friends as they go through puberty and all of the awkwardness that comes with it.

With five seasons available to watch, and a sixth in the pipeline, if you're looking for a funny, intelligent series to watch, then Big Mouth is definitely worth checking.

F is for Family is another gem on the list; the series is written by comedian Bill Burr and follows the life of a working-class family in the 1970s.

What Is BoJack Horseman About?

BoJack Horseman is set in an alternate world where humans and anthropomorphic animals (when we give human traits and emotions to non-humans) live side by side, taking place mostly in Hollywoo.

BoJack is a washed-up star of the sitcom Horsin' Around, which centered around a young bachelor horse trying to raise three human children who had been orphaned.

Now living mostly in obscurity in his mansion, BoJack plans a huge comeback as a celebrity with a tell-all autobiography to be written by ghostwriter Diane Nguyen.

But paying for his heady days as a an A-list celeb, he must now deal with his addiction to drugs and alcohol. Plus he also has to contend with the demands of his agent and former girlfriend Princess Carolyn and his former rival Mr. Peanutbutter.

The show finds an excellent balance between storytelling and jokes. The “Fish Out of Water” episode has an entertaining storyline and incredible visuals. In addition, Mr Peanuts' questions are downright hilarious.

Everyone in the show gets a happy ending apart from the main protagonist. Poor BoJack Horseman is arrested and sentenced to jail for breaking and entering in the series' final episode, but he's granted a leave to attend his ex-girlfriend Princess Carolyn's wedding.

The conclusion of the show was widely praised as a heartfelt finale.
