When Is Derry Girls Set?
Derry Girls is the hilarious sitcom created and written by Lisa McGee. It's set in Derry, Northern Ireland during the 1990s where we see four teenage girls (and one boy from England!) navigating their adolescence as they attend an all Girls Catholic School during the Troubles.
We already know that the series is set in the 1990s, but what year? Lisa McGee, the writer of the show has never specified the exact date. However, we can deduce from various real-world events shown in the comedy series that it must be set in 1995. In season two, the girls are shown watching a News programme that features American President Bill Clinton visiting Derry. Clinton's trip to Northern Ireland happened in November 1995. Giving fans a good clue about the exact year the series is set.
Where Is Derry Girls Filmed
Channels 4's most popular show in years, the comedy is arguably the biggest hit since Father Ted and has put Derry firmly on the map. Much of the TV series is actually filmed in Derry. However, many of the shows most iconic scenes are shot in Belfast.

How Many Seasons Of Derry Girls?
The British sitcom features three seasons in total, two have already aired but the third and final season of the television series is yet to drop. If you want to watch the first two series, you can find them on Netflix and Channel 4's on-demand service (UK tv only).
The teenagers are growing up and the show's creator has announced that season three will be the last. The feel good drama will wrap following the last outing of the ‘Derry Girls' which is due to air in 2022.

The young friends featured in the show are not that young! The group ranges in age from 24 to 26. Saoirse Monica Jackson, who plays Erin Quinn, is 24 while Louisa Harland who plays Orla McCool, is aged 24. Jamie-Lee O'Donnell, who is cast as Michelle, is 26 while Dylan Llewellyn, who plays James, is aged 25. These ‘Children' are old enough to be a teacher or parents.
