Did A True Story Inspire Stranger Things?

The Duffer brothers developed Stranger Things as a mix of investigative drama and supernatural elements portrayed with horror, childlike sensitivity and sincere friendship while infusing references to 80s pop culture.

It is, therefore, no wonder that Stranger Things has become a global phenomenon.

The show was originally called ‘Montauk' and was inspired by an alleged American military programme, Project Montauk. According to legend, the programme included experiments conducted during the Cold War on children involving mind control and time travel and conspiracy theories surrounding secrets.

Several thematic and directorial elements were also influenced by the works of Steven Spielberg, John Carpenter, David Lynch, Stephen King, Wes Craven and H. P. Lovecraft.

There is no substantial evidence to prove that something strange was happening in Montauk, but it creates an exciting read and proves a brilliant idea for a TV series!

How Many Seasons of Stranger Things?

The series has four seasons with a total of 34 episodes. After the success achieved in the first season, the series was renewed with two more, released in October 2017 and July 2019.

The 4th season of Stranger Things is already available on Netflix, released in two parts with seven episodes in May this year and the remaining two in July.

With truly chilling situations, iconic scenes, captivating characters and a dynamic plot, the series continues to win fans worldwide.

The fifth season will premiere in 2023 and has already been announced as the series' final season.

Stranger Things Music

Besides being famous for its storyline and characters, Stranger Things has also become a musical reference. From modern songs to classic pop, the music plays a key role in the series.

The individual characters also have their songs, creating more emphasis on the situation. For example, coupled with Will Byers is “Should I Stay or Should I Go?” from The Clash, reflecting his being trapped in two places.

Eleven has the music White Rabbit by Jefferson Airplane, which references Alice in Wonderland.

The music from Close Encounters of the Third Kind is also part of the setlist, and in the last season, Eddie from Metallica even enters the series playing “Master of Puppets”, bringing the old song back to the top of the charts.

Will Stranger Things Get a Spin-off?

As we mentioned, the fourth season of Stranger Things is already available on Netflix. The fifth season has already been confirmed for 2023. With much yet to see, some fans are already hoping for the series spin-off.

However, the news is good! In a letter to fans, the Duffer brothers promised, “There are many more exciting stories to come from the world of Stranger Things”.

While there is no information yet on what the spin-off would look like. Netflix did mention that “everyone will be surprised when they hear the concept because it's very, very different.”

For now, we can only wait for the next season and enjoy the adventures of Eleven and her friends.
