Shows Like Suits – 9 Legal Drama Gems To Stream And Binge

Suits is an American drama television series created and written by Aaron Korsh.

The series, nominated for several awards, is set in a fictional law office in New York City and stars Mike Ross, played by Patrick J. Adams, and Harvey Specter, by Gabriel Macht.

On the run from a drug deal gone bad, Mike Ross, a bright young college-dropout, accidentally walks into a job interview with one of New York's top lawyers, Harvey Specter.

With no exciting candidates, Harvey takes a chance hiring Mike after recognizing his raw talent and photographic memory.

Although Mike is a genius, he has much to learn about the law. However, his sympathy and concern for their cases will help remind Harvey why he went into law in the first place.

Mike's other office allies include the firm's top lawyer Rachel and Harvey's senseless assistant Donna.

Proving to be an irrepressible and indispensable duo for the practice, Mike and Harvey must keep their secret from everyone, including managing partner Jessica and Harvey's archenemy Louis, who seems determined to make Mike's life as hard as possible.

Is Suits Based On A True Story?

One of the things that many fans are not aware of is that Suits was, in fact, based on actual life events.

Before becoming a television writer, Aaron Korsh worked as an investment banker, which was the characters' occupation in his original plot.

According to him, the series was originally inspired by his real-life experiences on Wall Street.

In an interview, the director said that he started out writing only a play but quickly realised that the world of Wall Street would make an interesting series.

After moving permanently to the US, he eventually developed the show, and despite some changes in structure, it was clear that the basis remained the same.

Aaron Korsh also mentions that apart from the scenario, he actually worked with a man named Harvey and that a large part of the foundation of the series is also from that.

Has Harvey Specter Ever Lost?

With his shark-like, confident and arrogant reputation, Harvey Specter is considered the best lawyer in New York. He never loses a case in the series and scores multiple wins a day.

However, it should be noted that Suits is hypothetical and does not present an accurate picture of what a lawyer has to deal with and that not losing a case in an entire career is nearly impossible and unrealistic.

Where Was Suits Filmed?

Suits was filmed in Toronto.

The pilot episode was filmed in New York, where the series is set, but the rest was filmed in Toronto at Downsview Park Studios.

The sets were built to be identical to the New York law offices seen in the first episode.

The fictional law firm, Pearson Hardman, is based in the Skyscraper Bay-Adelaide Centre, which is featured extensively in the show.

Interestingly, to promote the series premiere, the USA had a preview showing of the pilot on June 2, 2011, in Hudson River Park and distributed free Häagen-Dazs Sundaes cones at the premiere.

Why Did Suits End After Season 9?

Although there has not been any official explanation given for the series ending, the truth is that audiences started to decrease since Megan Markle, who played Rachel Zane in the series, left to marry Prince Harry.

Series creator Aaron Korsh confirmed that season nine would be the last one and thanked the cast, crew and the fans for keeping the show running.

Despite that, it won't be the end for all the characters, as Gina Torre's character, Jessica Pearson, will return in the spin-off series Pearson, as she moves to Chicago to pursue a career in politics.

Although Suits is formally over, and there will be no season 10, the show has ended with the idea that Mike and Harvey team up again for the greater good, as they work primarily in class-action lawsuits, making fans happy.
