The Afterparty is a murder mystery comedy series created by Christopher Miller. Starring Tiffany Haddish, the first season premiered on Apple TV+ on January 28, 2022.
As expected, it was a huge hit for the streaming platform and was quickly renewed in March 2022.
The second season, premiered on July 12, 2023 with episodes of the murder mystery show dropping weekly until the killer was finally revealed.
So with two very successful seasons under it's belt, the question now is when can we expect to see The Afterparty season 3?
THE AFTERPARTY SEASON 3 RELEASE DATE
I wish I had better news but all I can say for now is that Apple TV+ have left us a little bit in limbo.
The second season has just aired and with the writer's strike ongoing in the US, almost nothing is being confirmed with regards to tv show renewals.
And that include The Afterparty season 3. That said, it did take Apple TV+ a few weeks to renew the show the last time so maybe if we hang tight, good news will be on the way.
The only small issue may be the way the second season ended. It fast forwarded a full year giving us a glimpse into how the lives of our main characters turned out.
Does this mean the story has been wrapped up? Or will Christopher Miller be able to create another epic mystery for us to solve?
As always, as soon as we know – you'll know!
If you haven't seen the first season of The Afterparty, then you're missing a treat. As it is an Apple TV+ original, you can only watch it there.
That means you need a subscription, so if you don't have one you can sign up here. It will cost you around $6.99/£6.99 per month and with its incredible list of shows, you'll be spoiled for choice.
THE AFTERPARTY SEASON 2 STORYLINE
Before we delve into the season 2 recap, let's take a little look at season 1.
The Afterparty has a very unique premise. At a high school reunion afterparty, one of the guests is murdered. Tiffany Haddish is Detective Danner, who must solve the case that night, and in her sights are a number of suspects.
Each interview retells the night's events but in a different genre of movie-making. So one is told as a romantic comedy, another as an action movie, another in animation, etc…
Danner must then look for inconsistencies and identify the culprit. It's clever and funny and makes a change from the usual run-of-the-mill whodunnits.
Season 2 followed a similar path, however, this time the murder was committed at a wedding. Zoe's sister Grace got married but the groom was killed on the wedding night.
With a new list of suspects, Detective Danner (Haddish) returned to help Aniq (Richardson) and Zoë (Chao) solve the whodunnit by questioning family members, star-crossed lovers and business partners.
Hearing each suspect’s retelling of the weekend, they then figured out who killed the groom and why.
