If you're anything like us, you're still reeling from season three of The Boys. We don't want to give too much away in case you haven't caught up yet, but let's just say that things are getting pretty intense and weird.
I'm still in shock over the supe sex party and the ‘Herogasm' storyline. I don't know about you, but I need some time to process what I just watched.
But even though we're still trying to make sense of the latest season, we can't help but wonder: when does The Boys season 4 come out?
Well, wonder no more! Here's everything we know about season 4 so far, from the release date to the cast and what we can expect from the new season.
Release Date?
Amazon renewed The Boys for a fourth season, following the conclusion of season three. So we know for sure the show will be back for another season.
Karl Urban told fans back in June that filming for the next season would begin shortly. He said: “I think August 22, we're going to be starting season four. So I'm getting back, getting my Butcher back on, and I can't wait.
“It's a fun gang to play with. We work hard and play hard, and I can't wait to see where they take the characters from where we leave them at the end of this season.”
So when can we expect the fourth instalment to drop? Using a little deductive reasoning, we can assume that season four will be released around June 2023.
This is based on the fact that seasons one, two and three were all released between June and September. The early filming schedule offers the hope of a summer release, as opposed to later in fall. Nevertheless, this is still just a guess and we'll have to wait for Amazon to give us an official release date.
What Can Fans Expect From Season 4?
While we don't know much about the upcoming season, we do have a few clues.
The following actors are all set to return for the new season: Urban, Quaid, Starr, Fukuhara, Alonso, Erin Moriarty, Tomer Capone, Dominique McElligott, Jessie T. Usher , Chace Crawford , and Nathan Mitchell.
A surprising return for Season 4 could be Black Noir, who seemed to die at the end of Season 3. The showrunner explained: “It's definitely not the last we've seen of Black Noir as a hero. It's just that the guy who was inside [the Noir suit] in season 3, he's gone. But we have Nathan playing a really interesting and hilarious character who wears the suit next season.”
Amazon's first season 4 casting announcement revealed that Cameron Crovetti, who plays Ryan Butcher, will have a more significant role on The Boys as a series regular.
The next season will feature at least two new Supes, Firecracker and Sister Sage. They will be played by Valorie Curry and Susan Heyward respectively.
The appears the main thrust of Season 4 will revolve around a battle for the heart and mind of Ryan Butcher. At the finale of the last season, Homelander introduced his son (Ryan) to a cheering crowd of his followers.
When a protester throws a drink at Ryan, Homelander kills the man with his laser eyes. Ryan reacts with a smirk. It seems that Homelander has finally found someone who may be even more twisted than he is.
This suggests that Ryan is being groomed to be a future mini-Homelander and that The Boys will have to fight even harder to protect him from his father's influence.
