The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 3 – Is There A Release Date?

The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 3 – Is There A Release Date?

The Summer I Turned Pretty is a book series by author Jenny Han, which consists of three novels: The Summer I Turned Pretty (2009), It's Not Summer Without You (2010), and We'll Always Have Summer (2011).

The series follows the life of 15-year-old, Belly Conklin (Lola Tung), and her experiences during her summer vacations at Cousins Beach.

In May 2021, it was announced that Amazon Studios had ordered a television adaptation of the book series which premiered on Prime Video on June 17, 2022.

To say that the show was a HUGE success is an understatement. The first season had a massive social media reach, and the hashtag #TheSummerITurnedPretty accumulated over 1.3 billion views on TikTok.

So, of course, Amazon Studios renewed it. In fact, they ordered The Summer I Turned Pretty season 2, before the first one even aired!

True to form, they did the same again and renewed the show for season 3 in August 2023.

And now our question is: When will The Summer I Turned Pretty season 3 be on Amazon???

The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 3 Release Date

We know that all of the cast are returning for The Summer I Turned Pretty season 3.

Originally, filming would have taken place in June/July 2023 as per the previous two seasons. However, with the writer's and actors strikes that took place, filming was put on hold.

We can confirm that it is now scheduled to begin on February 8th, 2024 and looks set to wrap on August 9th 2024.

And that brings us to the bad news. If Amazon Prime Video sticks to its format and releases The Summer I Turned Pretty in the Summer time, then we won't get season 3 until 2025!!!

They might bring it forward a little bit but based on the production schedules for the first two seasons, it would still be May 2025.

For now, until we get more production and release dates, check out our list of shows like The Summer I Turned Pretty to keep you entertained until Belly, Conrad and Jeremiah make their way back to Cousins Beach.

The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 2 Recap

The second season revolved around the second book in the trilogy, It's Not Summer Without You. Sadly, Susannah has died, and Belly's mum refuses to go back to Cousins Beach – hence the title of the novel.

We meet our favourite friends a year after the first season ended with flashbacks to fill us in on what happened in the intervening months.

Belly and Conrad got together and then broke up and Belly was back to square one trying to decide who she had feelings for – Conrad or Jeremiah.

While they managed to save the summer house, we left the trio on a bit of a bombshell. Belly, even though she knew she still had feelings for Conrad, chose Jeremiah. And Conrad, who also still has feelings for Belly showed up at the moment they kissed.

The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 3 What Happens?

So where does that leave them all? If Jenny Han sticks to the storyline as much as possible then The Summer I Turned Pretty season 3 will follow the plot of the last book; We'll Always Have Summer.

The story will pick up two years after the second season finale with Belly and Jeremiah still together and at the same college.

It's not exactly happily ever after Belly had hoped it would be, especially when she finds out that Jer cheated on her. Don't panic, in a moment of madness and to prove how sorry he is Jeremiah proposes. And Belly accepts.

But is it for the right reasons? Does she still have feelings for Conrad? Will they actually go through with the wedding? Do we EVER get an ending of this messy love triangle?

The problem we have is that the third book in the instalment has its fair share of critics. Not least because the vast majority of the storyline is wrapped up on one page, robbing fans of any real insight into how Belly's story ends – or at least how she gets there.

Maybe Han will address this when she writes the script. I don't think TSITP fans will appreciate a complete 180 when it comes to how the characters are portrayed – at least not how they are written in the book.

That said, there are only two brothers and Belly picks one. So somebody is going to be left behind…
