Originally intended to be a Limited Series, which basically means there will only be one season, The White Lotus was so hugely successful that the creators decided to make another one. And another one.
Now before you get too excited, the story from season one is done and dusted. As is season two.
All our holidaymakers who headed to Hawaii and then Sicily for a vacation have gone home, with all their craziness still intact.
So given how the first two seasons played out, can we expect the same format in The White Lotus season 3? More importantly, when will it air?
The White Lotus Season 3 Release Date On HBO and SKY
The good news is that The White Lotus was renewed as an anthology series by HBO.
HBO renewed the series for a third season before the second had even finished airing.
Creator-writer-director Mike White said, “I feel so lucky to get this opportunity again and am excited to reunite with my amazingly talented collaborators on The White Lotus.”
We know that filming hasn't started yet; in fact, the third season hasn't even been cast yet, so the earliest we can expect to see Season 3 is late 2023, but more likely in early 2024.
When it airs, you can watch it in the US on HBO Max. In the UK and Ireland, you can watch The White Lotus season 3 on SKY Atlantic.
In Australia, the first two season of The White Lotus is available to stream via both Binge and Foxtel Now.
The White Lotus Season 3 – What Happens?
The short answer is that nobody knows what direction creator Mike White will take the show for the third season.
It has been hinted that it may take place in Asia, with Asia executive producer David Bernad saying, “We've tried to work in Asia a lot and hopefully, Season 3 will be our chance to make something happen there.”
For those who have already watched the first two seasons, we know that the first revolved around money and the power dynamic it creates.
The second very much focused on sex and how it plays a role in relationships of all kinds.
For the third season, White wants to take a satirical and funny look at death and Eastern religion and spirituality.
He said: “It feels like it could be a rich tapestry to do another round at White Lotus.”
So will we get another murder or major death? Who knows? It's been the central plot of both seasons so far, so no reason why that won't continue!
