Tom Hanks is one of the greatest actors of modern times. From his early days starring in comedy classics such as Big and Turner & Hooch, and the rom-com hits You've Got Mail and Sleepless in Seattle, he has starred in over 90 different movies.

He won two consecutive Academy Awards for Best Actor for starring as a gay lawyer suffering from AIDS in Philadelphia (1993) and the title character in Forrest Gump (1994). In total he has been nominated six times.

He is adored and his movies are box office gold. So much so that he currently has another four films in post production.

The Terminal

Directed by Steven Spielberg, The Terminal (2004) is a comedy-drama with Tom Hanks who plays Victor Navorski.

Navorski is an Eastern European man who is stuck in New York's John F. Kennedy Airport terminal when he is denied entry to the United States and at the same time is unable to return to his native country because of a military coup.

Because of this, U.S. Customs and Border Protection seizes his passport and return ticket pending resolution of the issue. He becomes a refugee and is forced to live at Kennedy International Airport.

Cast Away

It is Christmas Day 1995 and Chuck (Tom Hanks) is rushing off to catch yet another plane for a business trip.

The flight experiences technical difficulties, and goes down somewhere in the south Pacific, where a relatively unharmed Chuck washes up on a deserted island.

Cast Away focuses on his desperate attempts to survive and return home and Hanks' performance was so good that he won Best Actor – Motion Picture Drama at the 58th Golden Globe Awards and was nominated for Best Actor in a Leading Role at the 73rd Academy Awards.

Another must-watch Tom Hanks movie, Captain Phillips is a 2013 American biographical thriller film directed by Paul Greengrass.

The Green Mile

An incredible movie, The Green Mile is a fantasy drama film written and directed by Frank Darabont and based on Stephen King's 1996 novel of the same name.

A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood is a 2019 American biographical drama film directed by Marielle Heller, inspired by a 1998 article published in Esquire.

It depicts Lloyd Vogel (Matthew Rhys), a troubled journalist for Esquire who is assigned to profile television icon Fred Rogers (Tom Hanks).

Rogers was an American tv host of the preschool television series Mister Rogers' Neighborhood, which ran from 1968 to 2001.

For his performance, Hanks was nominated for Best Supporting Actor at the Academy Awards, as well as the Golden Globes, Critics' Choice, Screen Actors Guild Awards, and BAFTA Awards, among others.

Saving Private Ryan
