Who Wrote Good Will Hunting?
The script for Good Will Hunting started out as a final assignment for a playwriting class Matt Damon was taking at Harvard University.
Damon then asked his friend Ben Affleck to develop the screenplay together and they completed the script in 1994. Matt Damon was 24 years old and Ben Affleck was 22 years old.
Castle Rock Entertainment bought the script for $675,000 but didn't want Damon and Affleck to star in the film. They then had to find another buyer, and in stepped Miramax, who paid Castle Rock back their money and agreed to let the two friends lead the movie.
And the rest, as they say, is history.
