It's Christmas Eve 1945, and in New York, George Bailey contemplates suicide. When the prayers of his family and friends reach Heaven, a guardian angel called Clarence Odbody is assigned to save George in order to earn his wings.

The entire movie was filmed in California, USA. Back in 1945, it was very unusual to have multiple long distance locations with most films being made on studio lots.
That said, there were specific locations used for It's A Wonderful Life including 4587 Viro Road, La Cañada Flintridge, California which was the exterior of Martini's house.
Beverly Hills High School was used for the Charleston dance contest and the RKO Encino Ranch was the outdoor studio set used for Bedford Falls town.
RKO-Pathé Studios was the indoor studio used when Harry Bailey calls George Bailey after returning from World War II.

Three colorized versions have been produced with the first released by Hal Roach Studios in 1986.
