Brittany Forgler is stuck in a rut but when her doctor tells her that she needs to change her ways, she puts one foot in front of the other pushing herself harder than she has ever done before.

Brittany Runs a Marathon is inspired by the true story of Brittany O'Neill. She is a lifelong friend of writer/director Paul Downs Colaizzo who changed her life by getting her into running.

Colaizzo does a great job focusing on the frustrations faced by anyone who takes those first steps to a better life.

There is a bit of Brittany Forgler that everyone can relate to, but throw together all of her many flaws, and she is a total train wreck waiting to happen.

What Is Brittany Runs A Marathon About?

Brittany Runs a Marathon is about a young woman named Brittany (Jillian Bell) who lives in New York City. She's funny and makes people laugh, but inside, she's not feeling too great about herself.

She's tired a lot, doesn't eat very healthily, and when she visits her new doctor's office, he tells her she needs to lose weight.

With the price of a gym membership out of reach, Brittany gets the idea to run just one block. It's hard, but she does it. Then, she thinks, why not run a little more?

With the help of some new friends, she sets a big goal: to run the New York City Marathon.

Throughout the movie, Brittany faces many challenges. Sometimes she feels like giving up. But she also finds out a lot about herself, makes new friends, and learns that change is possible if you put your mind to it.

Running becomes more than just exercise for her; it's a way to prove to herself that she can do anything she sets her mind to.

Is Brittany Runs A Marathon Worth Watching?

There are some genuinely funny moments throughout the film and Jillian Bell really stamps herself as a quality lead. She's instantly relatable and gives a brilliantly balanced and convincing performance.

The rest of the cast is great too. Utkarsh Ambudkar and Micah Stock bounce brilliantly off Jillian Bell. But a strong standout is Michaela Watkins (Casual), whose character is thoroughly unlikeable until we get the full back story.

The catch is the film is very formulaic and packed full of cliches. But on the flip side, this is exactly what makes this film work.

Calaizzo is relentless with his message, maintaining a great focus on the power of never giving up.

All in all, Brittany Runs a Marathon is an earnest and hilarious dramedy with lots of laughs. It may be a tad predictable and could have been a little shorter, but we can move past that.

But if you are looking for an inspirational story that will motivate you to make some changes in your life, Brittany Runs a Marathon should be your first choice.
