Jane's life is on track. She is studying to be a teacher, engaged and has decided to remain a virgin until marriage. But when she gets gets pregnant after accidentally being artificially inseminated her meticulously planned life gets very complicated and more like the telenovelas she loves. Very watchable and very funny.

Jane The Virgin is a huge hit and if you haven't seen it already then this could be your next show to absolutely binge on. It was created by Jennie Snyder Urman and stars the brilliant Gina Rodriguez as Jane Villanueva, the show's heroine. Jane is the quintessential good girl. Despite her own mother giving birth to her as a 16 year old, Jane is determined that her life will take a completely different path. She is a working, religious Latina virgin with a long term boyfriend who becomes pregnant after accidentally being artificially inseminated. The baby daddy turns out to be Rafael Solano, her multi-millionaire hotel owning boss who's wife was supposed to be the original recipient of said donation before the mix-up occurred.

As if things aren't complicated enough, Rafael is also Jane's teenage crush and being the virtual saint that she is, Jane dutifully cracks on with life as an expectant mother while wrestling her feelings for both Michael (her boyfriend) and Rafael who ultimately falls in love with her. Add her mother and grandmother into the mix – as she still lives at home – and you have the recipe for an award winning show. What makes the series a standout is the fact that it parodies commonly used tropes and devices in Latin telenovelas. There is a brilliantly funny voiceover throughout intermingled with flashes of Jane's imagination and the script is genius.

There are four seasons of Jane The Virgin on Netflix and a fifth is currently in production so there's plenty to get stuck into especially as there are 22 episodes in each episode. It's clever and witty and Rodriguez has won numerous awards for her portrayal of Jane but, it is pretty drawn out. Once you get over the lunacy of some of the plot lines and just when you think a story has been wrapped up back it comes to be eeked out even more. And that does get annoying especially when it involves characters that are constantly being duped. But if you can get over that you will enjoy it. It's easy watching, not particularly taxing and overall is fun to binge on.
