Lockwood & Co. follows is a teen supernatural drama that follows a trio of ghosthunters destined to change the course of history. Similar in style to Locke & Key.

Almost every tv series being made recently seems to have been adapted from a book. I guess it's a decent, if unoriginal, source of material. But joining the ranks is Lockwood & Co, the teen supernatural drama created for Netflix.

Written and directed by Joe Cornish, Lockwood & Co is based on Jonathan Stroud's book series of the same name.

With five books in the series, we're going back to where it all began. But is it all about, and more importantly, is it any good?

What is Lockwood & Co About?

The series is set in modern-day London with a twist. The city has been experiencing a supernatural event called “the Problem.” And that problem is the ghosts which appear at nighttime and attack the living.

However certain teenagers have the ability to sense these ghosts, but that ability fades as they get older. So giant corporations have been created to fend off them off and protect the public.

They are run by those who have passed the ghost-sensing age but it is still the teens, sent out as agents, who solve the hauntings.

Enter Lockwood & Co., the only agency in London run by children. Led by Anthony Lockwood, the only other member is his eccentric sidekick George Cubbins, that is, until Lucy Carlyle arrives.

Lucy is a supremely psychically gifted girl and joins the two teenage boys to put Lockwood & Co on the map. All they need to do is solve a few big cases to be taken seriously. But what they don't know is that they need to unravel a terrifying mystery that will change the course of history.

In a world where it is kill or be killed, is this renegade trio destined to survive and see another day?

Is Lockwood & Co. Worth Watching?

When a supernatural thriller series is done well then often there is nothing more exciting to watch. Think Grimm or Bitten for recent television series that had a dedicated and loyal fanbase.

However, when they fall short of their potential, they do nothing but induce a series of eye rolls and lose their audience faster than you can click ‘next episode'. A case in point is The Irregulars which was canceled after just one season.

The good news is that Lockwood & Co. has been made to an exceptionally high standard with an exciting young cast, amazing special effects, plenty of action, and a script that does its source material justice.

It's exciting, and engaging and as young adult novels go, has been well adapted. So while I may not be the typical audience for a YA television series, I was pleasantly surprised and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Well worth a watch if supernatural teen drama is your thing.
