In the era of internet dating, cryptocurrency, and economic hardships, No Hard Feelings, starring Jennifer Lawrence, gives a fresh, albeit sometimes jarring, take on modern relationships and the struggles of “adulting” in a constantly shifting world.
Directed by Gene Stupnitsky, at its core, the film is an exploration of love, societal expectations, and the extent to which people are willing to go to save what they hold dear.
A dramedy that navigates through quirky mishaps and genuine emotion, the film leaves viewers pondering their own life choices, laughing at the awkwardness of human interaction, and questioning the importance of societal norms.
What Is No Hard Feelings About?
In Montauk, New York, 32-year-old Maddie has serious financial troubles and is on the brink of bankruptcy. Her job as an Uber driver comes to a screeching halt when her car is repossessed, and she faces the loss of her inherited childhood home due to unpaid property taxes.
Her desperate solution? Answering an intriguing job listing: wealthy helicopter parents looking for someone to “date” their introverted 19-year-old son Percy.
The parents in question are the Beckers, who offer her a Buick Regal in exchange for dating their socially awkward son before he heads off to Princeton.
What ensues is a series of awkward and comedic attempts to make Percy “man up,” starting with a hilarious misunderstanding at an animal shelter that involves pepper spray and a case of mistaken kidnapping intent.
As Maddie and Percy venture deeper into their relationship, we see a genuine friendship blossom. Shared vulnerabilities create a bond that transcends their age difference and peculiar arrangement.
But sometimes all's well doesn't end well and at some point, the truth will out. Where will that leave Maddie and awkward Percy? And will his wealthy helicopter parents ever give him the room to lead his own life?

Is No Hard Feelings Worth Watching?
No Hard Feelings is a raunchy comedy that is probably most famous for the fact that Jennifer Lawrence is pretty much full-on naked in a scene on the beach.
But get passed that and actually what you get is a really funny, sometimes laugh-out-loud, movie that is much deeper than expected.
It is definitely more than just another rom-com or drama as it examines the lengths to which people will go when pushed to their limits.
Jennifer Lawrence's comedic chops and timing are on point and she shines as Maddie, who is flawed but endearing. Lawrence has the remarkable ability to be completely relatable yet stunningly beautiful and largely because she doesn't take herself too seriously in No Hard Feelings, she's even more likeable than ever.
But real kudos goes to Andrew Barth Feldman for his portrayal of the awkward and reserved Percy who proves to be just as funny by playing it completely straight the entire time. It's a casting match made in heaven.
And while No Hard Feelings brings the R-rated laughs and innuendos, most of the best jokes are in the trailer. What you're left with is more of a sweet and funny movie about friendship.
While that is not a bad thing, it is also more heartfelt than expected so if you thought you were getting a Hangover-style film, think again.
