Lori Vallow is accused of murdering two of her children, he ex-husband and the wife of her fifth husband. Now her surviving son tells the story in the documentary series, Sins of our Mother.

Netflix is no stranger to documenting the most heinous of crimes, much to the delight of its huge true crime fanbase. Adding to its already impressive collection of stories comes Sins of our Mother.

So what is Sins of our Mother all about? It is about a woman named Lori Vallow, a seemingly devoted mother of three, loving wife and woman of God. Except she wasn't.

Lori Vallow is currently in jail. She is awaiting trial on charges of conspiracy to commit murder and first-degree murder. They are in connection with the deaths of her fourth husband, her fifth husband’s wife, and her two youngest children.

Just pause for a second and take all of that in. She is accused of murdering four people, including two of her three children.

In Sins of our Mother, Lori’s surviving son Colby provides exclusive insight into his family’s backstory as well as their present-tense narrative as Lori faces justice.

Told as a three-part series, the biggest question that everybody has is how did a seemingly normal woman become the most notorious mother in America?

Is Sins of our Mother Worth Watching?

There is definitely a couple of interesting things in this docuseries that sets it apart from the usual true crime that we watch.

Firstly, Lori Vallow is awaiting trial. So no outcome has been determined, which does beg the question, why make the documentary now rather than wait until there has a least been a conclusion of sorts?

That doesn't mean to say that Sins of our Mother isn't fascinating. In fact, the story around Lori Vallow's life becomes so complicated that you nearly need a road map to work out who's who, who killed who and how they all connect to each other.

Because believe me, while Lori Vallow may be accused of first degree murder for killing her two youngest children, the story doesn't end there.

Sins of our Mother is one of those intriguing but ultimately shocking and depressing documentaries that genuinely makes you question humanity.

How does a seemingly normal woman, a devoted mother, commit murder and just go about her normal life as if nothing happened?

Who knows the answer to that question, I doubt even Lori Vallow does.

Sins Of Our Mother Netflix Release Date

Netflix confirmed that the docuseries would premier on September 14th 2022.

What Is Lori Vallow Accused Of?

This is a really complicated life story. It starts with the simple fact that Lori Vallow was married five times.

The first was when she was 19 and married her high school boyfriend Nelson Yanes. The marriage ended in divorce shortly afterwards, and they had no children.

Three years later at age 22, she married William Lagioia, and they had a son, Colby before divorcing in 1998. Colby is the surviving son in the documentary Sins of our Mother.

Lori's third marriage was in 2001 to Joseph Anthony Ryan Jr., who legally adopted Colby. The couple then went on to have a daughter, Tylee, who was born in 2002. By 2005 they were divorced.

Lori's fourth husband was Charles Vallow who she married in 2006. In 2013, the couple adopted Vallow's grandnephew, Joshua Jaxon “J.J.” Vallow.

Then in 2018, Lori met Chad Daybell, and that's when everything started to go wrong. Without going into too much detail, to say that Chad Daybell held religious beliefs that were a little out there is the understatement of the century. But Lori fell for it hook, line and sinker.

In February 2019 Charles Vallow filed for divorce, stating that his wife had threatened to murder him. He filed for an order of protection against Lori at the advice of his attorney, citing a “genuine fear for his life”.

In July 2019, Charles Vallow was shot and killed in by Lori's brother, Alex Cox. Death number one.

Lori's daughter Tylee was last seen September 8, 2019, at Yellowstone National Park. She was with her brother J.J., her mother, and her uncle Alex Cox, Lori's brother.

J.J. was last seen on September 23, 2019 at Rexburg's Kennedy Elementary School. The following day, Lori contacted the school to tell them that she would be homeschooling him.

On October 19th 2019, Tammy Daybell, Chad's wife also conveniently died.

Two weeks later, in November 2019, Chad and Lori married.

From December 2019 to January 2020, the investigation into the disappearances of the two children intensified, as well as the investigation into Tammy's death.

On June 9, 2020, police executed a search warrant at Chad Daybell's home. There they discovered buried human remains which have been confirmed as being those of Tylee and J.J.

In May 2021 Lori Vallow and Chad Daybell were charged with the murders of Tamara Daybell (the fifth husband's wife), Tylee Ryan, and JJ Vallow.

The following month Lori Vallow was indicted by an Arizona grand jury on conspiracy to murder her husband Charles Vallow.

Because of various postponements due to Lori Vallow's competency, the trial has been moved to January 2023. This is to make sure that she and Chad Daybell will be tried together.

Arizona Prosecutors have announced that they will be seeking the death penalty for both Lori Vallow and Chad Daybell.

Sins of our Mother seems like a pretty tame title for a documentary series considering what Lori Vallow has allegedly done.
