There have been quite a few coming-of-age stories relating to teens or young people with superpowers. A few examples include The Innocents, DC Titans, I Am Not Okay With This and Runaways, to name a few. And now we can add The Imperfects to that list.
So what makes The Imperfects different from all of the others that have gone before it? For a start, the series focuses on just three main characters – none of whom actually asked for or even knew they had superpowers.
Unbeknownst to them, Abbi, Juan, and Tilda (Morgan Taylor Campbell) underwent experimental gene therapy. Now they realise they have been turned into monsters.
So the three twenty somethings band together to hunt down the scientist responsible for their transformation, Dr. Alex Sarkov.
Dr Alex Sarkov is a geneticist who is willing to do whatever it takes to bend the human genome to his will in a bid to create a world of monsters.
Can our intrepid trio find him and force him to make them human again? Helping them on their quest is scientist Dr. Sydney Burke. But there are a lot of hurdles to overcome first.

Is The Imperfects Worth Watching?
The production value in this show is sky high. It very much has a feel of The Umbrella Academy about it in that it's action-packed, tells a good story and the characters are more realistic than in some other shows.
Also, the character's superpowers aren't the normal run-of-the-mill. Instead, they have been based on those of legendary creatures.
Tilda is the banshee – an Irish female spirit whose wailing is said to be heard when there's a death in the family.
Abbi is the succubus – a female demon that appears in dreams to seduce men.
And lastly, Juan is the chupacabra – a vampire-like South American creature that feeds on blood.
So straight away, it's more interesting, helped by a sharp and clever script with plenty of twists and turns.
However, it's not entirely perfect. There are LOTS of tired cliches about evil scientists and outcasts and plenty of those eyerollingly bad decisions that make you shake your head in disbelief.
That said, The Imperfects has a target demographic, and if they tune in and give it the thumbs up, then it has the potential to be a huge hit.
