Dune is a motion picture that was released in 1984. The movie is about the planet of Arrakis and the battle for its control. David Lynch directed this film, and there was a star-studded cast with actors like Kyle MacLaughlan, Patrick Stewart, and Sting.
The 1984 movie wasn't well-received; Roger Ebert gave Dune one star out of four and wrote, “This movie is a real mess, an incomprehensible, ugly, unstructured, pointless excursion into the murkier realms of one of the most confusing screenplays of all time.” Ebert added: “The movie's plot will no doubt mean more to people who've read Herbert than to those who are walking in cold”.
It was one of the most expensive pictures ever made when it came out, costing over $40 million. However, the picture failed to recoup costs, earning $30,925,690 by the end of its run.
The David Lynch movie has since been remastered to HD and broadcast on television. What sets DUNE apart from other science fiction movies is the complex themes and ideas related to politics, religion, and ecology.
A newly updated version of the movie directed by Denis Villeneuve, is due to be released in September 2021. Trailers for the film have been dropping over the past few months, and they show lots of new footage.
Cast members include Timothee Chalamet, Dave Bautista, Zendaya and Stellan Skarsgård.
