Hellboy – 3 – 2019 – Rise of the Blood Queen – Teaser Trailer

Ok the wait is over! The Big Red Guy who likes to kick some supernatural ass is back on our screens and this looks amazing…

This reboot of the Hellboy franchise has been a long time coming. The first Hellboy was released way back in 2004 with the follow up Hellboy 2 hitting the screens in 2008. Both of these films were written and Directed by Guillermo del Toro, a multi-award winner who is famous for films like Pan's Labyrinth (Read our review here…). He is famous for creating a unique style, which is what he did with the first two Hellboy movies when Ron Pearlman played the lead. Both were huge box office successes and well received by the critics.

The new film has a fresh Director in Neil Marshall. Famous for his first film, the cult comedy horror movie Dog Soldiers. Marshall is a British director who has since Directed Game of Thrones, Blackwater and won an Emmy for The Watchers on the Wall. There is a new team of writers, but one thing to note here is that Mike Mignola himself (the creator of Hellboy) is heading the team so fans of the comic books will be in for a treat.

There is also a brand new cast. David Harbour from Stranger Things jumps into the big red demon suite and it is interesting to hear that he has done a lot of research into the character. Milla Jovovich comes in as Nimue (The Blood Queen) and other key members are Ian McShane, Sasha Lane and Daniel Dae Kim. A great cast.

The new trailer looks fantastic and Mignola has poured praise on David Harbours version of his own creation. Comparisons with the Del Toro Movies are inevitable but like any other reboots, maybe it is worth watching with fresh eyes. Mignola wanted this movie to be true to his idea and the R-rating suggests we may see the true Hellboy.

It hits our screen in April 2019 – can't wait to see him kick some demon ass on the streets of the UK.
