As if there was a shortage of superheroes around, New Line Cinema has brought back the god-like DC Comics superhero, Shazam!
The film is based around the DC comic character Shazam and it will be the first time we see a live-action version of him since 1941! David F. Sandberg is directing the film, having previously directed Annabelle: Creation. The film will be released in the UK on April 5th, 2019, where we get to meet the funny, kinder and more innocent superhero!
Shazam is the story of an orphan child called Billy Batson who is played by Asher Angel. He moves in with a new foster family along with other orphan children. Billy takes a subway journey across town one day that ends up not where he intended. He finds himself in a different realm where he meets an ancient wizard.
The wizard wants to pass his power on to Billy, all he has to do is say ‘Shazam!'.
Billy does as he's told and becomes Shazam the adult superhero, who is played by Zachary Levi. Along with the help of his foster brother Freddy Freeman the two of them must now work out how to use Shazam's powers. At first, things couldn't be better for the pair, they can do things they never imagined possible but the fun period soon comes to an end.
Shazam struggles to use his powers appropriately which attracts the attention of Dr. Thaddeus Sivana. Sivana, who is played by Mark Strong, has spent his whole life trying to get the powers Shazam possesses. Now Shazam has a villain after him and he needs to save the city!
Couple this with Billy's evergrowing interest in finding his family and trying to cope with Freddy getting bullied, it appears Shazam has his work cut out for him.
This looks like a fantastic addition to the world of superhero movies. Shazam is not the type of superhero we are used to. He isn't the confident, experienced one, but a 14-year-old boy who now finds himself with superpowers.
