The second official trailer for X-Men: Dark Phoenix has just been released on Youtube. Amazingly, it has reached a million views in just the first five hours!
The new trailer provides us with even more of the plot for the twelfth instalment in the X-Men franchise. We see that Jean Grey (Sophie Turner) has significantly greater power than she previously possessed. This occurred due to a space mission that went wrong and a cosmic force took over Jean. The X-Men try to help Jean after the ordeal but as shown in the trailer, *SPOILER ALERT*, this is only to the detriment of Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence).
Director Simon Kinberg said the reason for having this in the trailer is to make the movies more realistic. That superheroes aren't always invincible. As the trailer goes on we see that Jean has trouble with controlling her powers. When they take over she keeps hurting her loved ones. The film is about the X-Men trying to help Jean before it's too late. They also need to stop outsiders from trying to harness her power to take over the galaxy.
Kinberg has written three previous X-Men films as well as produced two of them. However, this is the first time he has ever directed a film and is also writing and producing it. He has plenty of talent to work with though. Sophie Turner, Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender and James McAvoy, are just a few of the cast members.
Dark Phoenix is part of a new X-Men trilogy and the film is set to be released in cinemas June 7th 2019. X-Men: Apocalyse made $543.9 million USD in the box office so we'll wait to see how this one gets on.
